Saw Urinetown last night
If you get a chance, SEE IT. Trust me. I've never seen a more enjoyable musical about love, social oppresion, and urination.

Plus it pokes fun at just about every musical out there, up to and including Les Mis.

Oh, and I didn't realize until I got there, but the guy who cowrote the book and music is a veteran of the Neo-Futurists, most famous for their play "Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind" - which, in turn, is famous among those I know for it's segment that was later turned into an animation entitled "Bingo." This explains a lot, including the surreality and tongue-in-cheek humor in which the play makes fun of itself.

Just go see it already. It's playing at the OCPAC for the moment, and looks like it'll hit Los Angeles in a couple of weeks.

OK, I can stop the timer now.
I knew it would only be a matter of time before you posted that. =)

This play is a little disturbing if you choose to think along the right terms (they flat out tell the audience that their way of life is unsustainable, but it's done tongue in cheek so the audience can choose to ignore it if they want) - but for the most part, it's just plain fun. No freaky clowns here. =)
