For those curious about my doctor's appointment today
So I got there and explained that I've had people commenting on my voice being scratchy since, well, puberty. He said that it was also very nasaly - which made me laugh, because that's what I was made fun of for prior to puberty. So he looked in my nose and at my throat and said the only surprise was that I wasn't coughing more - apparently there's (his words) "a river of white mucus running down the back of your throat".

So he gave me stuff to take in the morning, suggested Benedryl in the evening, suggested I use a saline nasal spray several times a day, and gave me a nasal spray for twice a day. I told him that I'd been on Flonase and when I was using that for the prescribed amounts it had given me nosebleeds, he said that wasn't uncommon as it's so strong (but effective), and gave me something lighter to use. He also referred me to the Ear Nose and Throat doctor so they could take a look, as extended periods of mucus exposure (like, say, 10 years or so) can cause pollops. We'll see what s/he says when I get to see him/her.

He also said I should see about lowering my allergen surroundings and seeing if that helps - cleaning ceiling fans, losing (or at least vacuuming) carpets and blinds and windowshades, paying closer attention to whether cat exposure makes it worse. That kind of thing. I'll see what I can do about that - I suspect step one is cleaning my surroundings at work and home so dusting can be possible. Ya know, when I have time.

Anyway, that's the status report.

I guess Diana really WAS trying to kill you.

(I never really thought your voice was scratchy..)

Um. no. Diana was the calico cat. ;)

Robin was the dog. And he only wanted you dead because you insisted on hugging me. He's not moving too fast now though, so you're probably safe. Diana you might want to watch for though... ;)

Now you can see why they wanted me dead!
They both did. And I think always getting them confused was a contributing factor... :-S

DOOD...please tell me you didn't type this up while at work!!

And if you typed it up before hand I am going to give you the evil stare on monday morning for making me put everything in Anthony's queue. Poor Anthony...oh just you wait till monday...hahahahaha.

Not at work
I went home to take some of the medication I mentioned, and had friends and family that were concerned, so I took five minutes to write this.

Stare all you like, but notice that I feel no shame about it, and haven't changed the post to friends-only nor changed the time on it to indicate it happened sometime that it didn't. Either of which I could have done as I was posting it in the first place.

allergens! now that's something I'm familiar with!
Yes, the boy who should live in a bubble but since they don't make those kinds of bubbles against ingesting most foods (or at least most processed food products) knows about them allergens...

you don't have any furry/fuzzy pets where you live, do you?
Idtechnomonkey on January 4th, 2003 11:13 am (UTC)
Yes and no.
No fuzzy animals where I currently house all my stuff. Most of my time is spent at my GF's, where two cats also live. But this problem has been ongoing for many years, including when I lived with my parents and their dog, but also including when I lived in the dorms at CSUS and no animals whatsoever.

Re: Yes and no.
Could also be mold, dust, anything hanging in the air... or even developments later. My allergies really didn't explode until I was the age of five - I love chicken, corn on the cob, peanuts...
