Ya know, it occurred to me earlier tonight that "The state of the..." is overused, but mostly in one specific way. State of the Union is obvious, as is State of the Art. Those have become just part of the vocab. You learn their meaning right after "botony" or "velociraptor" in second grade. But there's another one that I hear, or rather read, all the damn time. It makes no sense, but it's what people generally use.

And it never varies.

For some reason, when people talk about where they are in their own lives, what's going on, that kind of thing...they title that post as "The State of the Duck."

Where the hell did that come from? Why is it the way pretty much everybody does it? What's up with that damn duck?
