Eye see a twist
Apparently my LASIK story hasn't ended yet.  The doc I'm working with called and said that apparently the people who spoke with me about the cost forgot to account for the fact that I'm a student.  He offered me a significant discount (on the condition that I don't talk about the specifics, and with the request that I send people his way).

With the student discount, a couple of things happen.  First, the financing options become a lot more manageable.  Second, if I'm able to pay $XXX.XX per month, that'll get the whole thing paid off in one year -- and that'll make it interest free.

This would be a truly ugly option...if that weren't the EXACT amount we've been paying to Jen's ex-husband every month, and if this month weren't the last payment necessary for him.

Suddenly, the procedure is back to being doable - and in fact it's considerably cheaper than if I waited until I had the money on hand.

Guess it's back on the table for consideration....

I don't recall how your eyesight is, but the only person I know who was unhappy right after getting it had really bad vision to begin with so a very extreme case. I will add the caveat that it doesn't necessarily last forever but still worth it I think if you can afford to get it, have it paid off in a year and not be totally overstretching to do that.
