For the curious  
The vet thinks it was a thromboembolus.  Which is a blood clot that breaks off and blocks arteries.  I hate this theory because it's a very painful way to go (and kinda unlikely for one as young as Lilly), but I like it because there's absolutely nothing that can be done for it -- I can hold onto the "it's not my fault" thing.  So I'm choosing to believe the vet.

Yeah, I like it, too. Same reason: I feel guilty that I didn't write a check and insist on hospitalizing her. But I have a hunch it wouldn't have made any difference. If anything, it would have been additional trauma poor Lilly had to endure.

And, face it, it WAS a painful death. If there's anything to be grateful for, it's that that part is over.

I agree that it's good that part's over - and not only is it part over, it really didn't last all that long. Two days at the most, but I think closer to half of one. Seems like a long time when you're going through it, I'm sure -- but compared to the amount some go through, not long at all.
